Licence Conditions FAQ

Are licenses perpetual?

The Commercial and Personal licenses are perpetual and come with a year of upgrades. After that, the plugin will no longer update but will continue to work.

Old versions of Edaphic Studio will not be updated to work with newer versions of IntelliJ which means that there may come a time when you want to upgrade IntelliJ and thus have to upgrade Edaphic Studio as well. Similarly, since Edaphic Studio only supports the last two major versions of IntelliJ (v14, v14.1, and v15 for Edaphic Studio 1.0), you may at some point need to upgrade IntelliJ if you want to continue updating Edaphic Studio. However, if you’re happy to stay on an older version of Edaphic Studio and an older version of IntelliJ, then you won’t have to upgrade if you don’t want to.

Non-Commercial licenses expire after six months and can be renewed by requesting another one.

Does Edaphic Studio require an IntelliJ license?

No, Edaphic Studio works fine with the free Community edition of IntelliJ.

What happens at the end of my upgrade period?

At that point, you will be notified, and your IDE will stop updating automatically. If you wish to continue receiving updates at that point, you can upgrade your existing license.

Is Edaphic Studio bundled with IntelliJ Ultimate or JetBrains toolbox?

Unfortunately not - we're not associated with JetBrains so we can't offer this.

What is the license install process?

When you place your order, you will be sent an email with the license certificates for the licenses you purchased. Each license certificate is just a short piece of text which you can copy and paste into a dialog box either at startup or from Help→Register Edaphic Studio.

Can my personal license be used on multiple machines or platforms?

Yes, as long as it's only you using it on those machines.

What happens if I upgrade to a new machine?

Just install your license on your new machine.

I'm currently not making money with SystemVerilog, but I might be soon. What should I do?

Get a Non-Commercial license for now, and then get a Personal or Commercial license when you start charging for your SystemVerilog work.

Which payment methods do you offer?

Currently, we only offer payment via credit card, PayPal or ACH/SEPA/BACS transfer. However note that because of how the license fulfillment works, if you pay via bank transfer, you will not receive the licenses until the payment is received. If you are making a large order (60+ licenses) you can pay via invoice/purchase order, contact us for details.

Do you offer volume discounts for larger commercial license orders?

Yes, we offer the same volume discounts as JetBrains:

10 or more 5% 20 or more 7% 50 or more 9%

These discounts should be calculated automatically during the purchase process and will use the total number of licenses we have sold to you (i.e., the cut is cumulative, not per purchase). If this discount is not correctly added, please ensure that you're using the same name as you did for your previous purchases. Contact us if you're having problems with this.

Do you offer a license server?

We do not currently offer a license server; however, if this would be useful for you to let us know so, we can judge the level of interest.

Do you offer site licenses?

We do not currently offer site licenses.

Can I see the EULAS for the different versions?

Of course, the EULAs are here: Commercial Licence, Personal Licence, and Non-Commercial Licence.

Can I request a change to your EULA, or get you to sign additional license terms?

Edaphic Studio is licensed as-is, we cannot offer one-off changes to our terms. For customers with large numbers of licenses (60+), we can discuss changes, contact us to negotiate something.

I'm using Edaphic Studio for a class or lab. Can I avoid having them get individual non-commercial licenses?

Yes, in that case, you can get a single Non-Commercial license for your class with your organization's name, and install it on all the machines.

I heard you are working on a standalone IDE - Will my license work with that?

Yes, the same license will work with the standalone IDE when we release it.

Can I get access to the source code if I buy a commercial license, or pay more to get it?

Source code access is something that we're considering long term, but we don't offer it at the moment.

Do you have a resellers program?

Yes, see here for details.
